Using My Music FAQ, May 2020

Posted by Onefin - May 11th, 2020

Hi! A lot of people have been asking me if they can use my music for their stuff. This FAQ contains the answers that I often give for these.

Can I use your music in a YouTube video?

Yes, with credit. The video can be monetized as long as it's not just a reupload of the song. Please read the details below about what good credit looks like.

Can I upload a YouTube video of a Geometry Dash level containing your song?

You can. If you include a shot at the beginning or the end of the video of the level screen with the song name displayed in-game, I will count that as credit. Otherwise, give credit in the description. Note that my policy here is relatively lenient; if you're going to upload a video of a Geometry Dash level containing someone else's song, you should ask that artist about how they want attribution to be given!

Can I use your music in a project outside of YouTube, such as a video game?

Without YouTube's copyright net, this gets a bit more strict. Most of my original songs are usable as long as you comply with the terms of the CC BY-SA license, but there are some exceptions:

  • Don't use my remixes, unless you have permission from the original author(s) to use it under the same CC BY-SA license. Chances are you're thinking of using one of my Mystery Dungeon remixes. Good luck contacting NoisyCroak about that :)
  • Don't use something I collaborated on, unless you have express permission from the collaborator(s) to use it under the same CC BY-SA license.
  • Don't use anything I've written that is part of a soundtrack.

How should I give you credit?

For most of my songs it suffices to include the name of the song, my screen name, and a link to where you got the song, like this:

Music is Aeolia by 1f1n1ty.

Acquired from https://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/772055

If you're using one of my remixes, however, you'll want to give some credit to the authors of the original song as well. Here are a couple of examples:

Music is Voice In The Dreams from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Gates to Infinity.

Original by Keisuke Ito and Yasuhiro Kawagoe. Remix by 1f1n1ty.

Acquired from https://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/694359

Music is Dark Matter Suite by 1f1n1ty and LOrbSheddy.

Originally composed by Keisuke Ito, Yasuhiro Kawagoe, and Noriko Murakami for Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon.

Acquired from https://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/693041

Will you upload your music to Spotify or Apple Music?

That's not a question about music usage, but no.

Hope this clears things up. If you have more questions about my music, feel free to ask! I'm here :)

This was very useful! Thank you!
